Joint Entrance Examination – Advanced (JEE-Advanced), formerly the Indian Institutes of Technology-Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) is an annual engineering college entrance examination in India. JEE Advanced is a computer-based exam & is conducted by one of the seven zonal IITs (IIT Roorkee, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, and IIT Guwahati) under guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB). It is used as the sole admission test by the 23 Indian Institute of Technology (IITs). It is gateway to best prestigious institutions of India.
Students who are the citizen of India, PIO (Person of Indian Origin), OCIs (Overseas Citizen of India) and foreign nationals are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced exam.
The applicants should have cleared class 12th board exams or any other equivalent exam in 2020. Applicants appearing for the 2021 board exams are also eligible.
The students belonging to general category must secure a minimum of 75% of marks and for students belonging to SC, ST and PWD categories must secure a minimum of 65% of marks in their class 12th board examinations or they must be from the list of category wise top 20 percentile in their respective class 12th equivalent board examinations.
Candidates who are born on or after 1st of October 1996 are eligible. For applicants belonging to the reserved category, provided with a relaxation of 5 years.
Candidates can appear and write the exam twice for 2 consecutive years irrespective of whether or not he/she passed the qualifying exam
The following five subjects (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Optional Languages, Elective subject) will be considered to calculate the cut off marks and aggregate marks for fulfilling the JEE Advanced eligibility criteria of top 20 percentile.
To be eligible for JEE Advanced, the students should rank within top 2,50,000 (including all categories) in JEE Main. Candidates also need to meet the cut-off set by IITs
The percentage split between different categories is: OPEN – 46.5%, GEN-EWS - 4%, Scheduled Caste (SC)- 15%, Scheduled Tribe (ST)- 7.5%, OBC & NCL – 27%, PwD – 3%.
Candidates should have never taken admission into any IIT. Candidates who joined an IIT and subsequently cancelled their candidature are ineligible to get admission.
For 2021, the exam authority is yet to release the criteria.
